Professor Shelley Cobb

Shelley Cobb is Professor of Film and Feminist Media Studies at the University of Southampton. She was PI on the AHRC-funded project ‘Calling the Shots: Women and Contemporary Film Culture in the UK’ that investigated gender inequality in the film industry through data and recorded over 50 oral histories of women in above the line roles. She is the author of Adaptation, Authorship and Contemporary Women Filmmakers (Palgrave-Macmillan 2014) and co-editor of First Comes Love: Power Couples, Celebrity Kinship and Cultural Politics (Bloomsbury 2015) and special journal editions on ‘Friends’ (Television and New Media, 2018) and diversity in the UK film and television industries (Journal of British Cinema and TV Studies, 2020). She is co-editor on the forthcoming book Coming Back Stronger: 90s Nostalgia in Contemporary Media Culture (Bloomsbury) and has published widely on the film and television industries, women and popular culture, gender and celebrity culture, feminism in the media, and film and tv adaptation.
